For Fans Of: Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, and Quicksand
These dudes sent me their album a couple weeks back to give to you all. They’re an Austin, TX based band with early 90’s influences such as Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, and Quicksand. Past shows include ones with Fatal Flying Guillotines, Heroin Sheiks, Plastic Constellations, and Stnnng. Check’em out!

For Fans Of: Fugazi, Jets To Brazil, Hot Water Music
My favorite Jawbreaker album, not just because it’s my favorite set of Jawbreaker songs, but I feel Blake Schwarzenbach’s vocals sounds especially good on this record.

For Fans Of: Fugazi, Jawbox, The Nation of Ulysses
I started listening to this band about a year ago, and am just now getting around to doing a post on them. My apologies.
Forming in 1997 Faraquet signed to Dischord Records to release their first full-length. These guys are definitely influenced by Fugazi, but are more technical. Think Fugazi meets King Crimson.
AllMusic explains their sound best with the following description:
“Faraquet have created an album of technical, churning, and passionate frenzies collapsed into melodically pleasing atrophy.”

Before I ever listened to Bear vs. Shark I was told by somebody, who’s word I now take with a grain of salt, that B vs. S was just a rip-off of At The Drive-In. While I can definitely see the comparisons, Bear vs. Shark had their own thing going and boy what a great thing that was.
I feel their 2003 release Right Now, You’re In The Best of Hands is their best material, but you really can’t go wrong with anything Bear vs. Shark has done imo. Stream a couple tunes or download the album in our Free Download Lounge! Not a member yet? Join for FREE here!

Hitting the scene in 1991, these guys never became really popular, as is the case with a lot of great bands that time has forgot. I was fortunate enough to be recommended this band from Steve Cosand over at Compendium of Cosandium. I personally feel these guys peaked in 2001 with the release of Leaves Turn Inside You, but don’t take my word for it.

Hot Snakes Punk Rock/Post-Punk/Garage San Diego, CA USA
For Fans Of: Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu, At The Drive-In
Since I’ve been listening to Hot Snakes all day I figured I’d do a post on them. I just heard these guys for the first time 3 days ago, and I must say they have really blown me away. Hot Snakes creates really catchy, creative punk/post-punk rock songs that will make you itch for a re-listen they’re so good.
Forming in 1999 by Rick Froberg and John Reis, who also had started the San Diego post hardcore band Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes has released 4 full length albums total, 3 being put out by Swami Records. Now I’ve already heard two of these albums so far and they both rule, but between the two I’ve listened to Audit In Progress is their stand out album. Here are a couple songs streaming from that album, enjoy!
